Holiday Traditions

Just recently I read an article about family holiday traditions and it got me thinking about some of our own traditions that we had growing up as kids.  Growing up in a small town in southern Idaho the holidays were always about family, friends and helping neighbors.  Holiday parties all month long, at church, school, local events and my parents work parties.  During the holidays we where always surrounded by friends and family which made the holiday even more special.  During that time of year it was also a time where we would extend our family and be able to help out those that needed a little extra during that time of year.   Even as I left home this has been something that I have always tried to continue to do wherever I might be living that year, which have become some of my favorite memories.  Other memories that I always look back on are the Christmas Eve nights at my grandparents, sitting by the fire eating homemade chili and listening to stories of when they were kids and opening gifts that were sent to us by family members afar.  Then, getting ready to go to church listening to the chimes playing christmas hymns and walking to church with my family, usually while it was snowing on a cold crisp night and being amazed at how quite and peaceful it was and remembering how blessed I was to be there at that moment.

Living here in Sun Valley I see a lot of these same traditions both from the people who live here and from the people who visit.  This time of year for everyone is about friends and family and here in Sun Valley we get the opportunity to include everyone with all the different events that happen through out the season.  Many of the people who visit Sun Valley during the holiday season have done so for years.  It is great to see the different generations that come back year after year and introduce new generations to the magic that is Sun Valley.  I know for me Sun Valley has always been part of our family tradition.  Whether coming up to cut our Christmas tree, ice skating on the lodge rink, or to go up to Galena to go cross-country skiing, snow shoeing or hitting the slopes on baldy, there is just a special feeling in the air this time of year that can’t be explained.

We here at Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season.  Whether you are coming for the first time or you are a long time return visitor, Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties would love to help you and your family make Sun Valley part of your family tradition for a long time to come.
